group programs are an effective way to learn and practice skills, build confidence, make friends, and try new things.

They are also a great way to try therapy for the first time, enhance your ongoing therapy or experience therapy when on the waitlist for a private therapist.

FAQ’s:

Is it based in evidence?
Yes, the program is based in CBT, ACT, DBT and Mindfulness Evidence-Based Modalities but is presented in creative ways.

Does my child have to be creative?
Absolutely not. Any level of creativity is welcome and encouraged to join.

What ages are the 2 groups for?
Tweens (ages 8-12) and Teens (ages 13-16). There will be a short interview with parents when you complete your expression of interest form to deem suitability for a group program right now.

Where is it held?
At the Bec Taylor School of Music, Dickson, ACT

When is it?
Saturday mornings from February 11th, 90 mins per week for 6 weeks. There will also be an option (but highly recommended) parent session after the 6 weeks.

What are the creative things you’ll do?
We’ll do a combination of art, craft, acting, music, imagination, story telling, etc, etc. If any of this feels scary and unfamiliar to your child, they will have choice over what they get involved in but will likely build confidence throughout the course.

What are my qualifications?
I am a Child Clinical Psychologist, a music teacher, and have been practicing creative modalities my whole life. This is not Art Therapy, and I am not an Art Therapist, but rather, this is therapy using art to engage children, who respond to flexible and creative modalities so well.

What does the cost cover and is there a rebate?
$950 covers:
- 9 hours of group therapy
- Parent session after the program
- Art and music supplies, including many take-home objects and projects
- Fun Music School venue hire
- Extra resources and parenting strategies along the way

NDIS self-managed participants may be eligible for a rebate depending on their plan, and there may be a medicare rebate depending on group numbers. Please check with your private health insurer if they cover psychology group therapy.
